The Constitution
The Six Basic Principles
The Constitution is a brief, straightforward document that has guided American government for over 200 years. Its authors wrote the Constitution based on the principle of republicanism - that political power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen by them.

    The six principles of the constitution are
    1. popular sovereignty
    where the people are the legitimate and final source of government authority.

    2. Limited Government

    The government may only do what the people have directed it to do

    3. Seperations of powers
    The division of government power among the three equal branches legislative makes the las executive enforces the las and judicial interprets the laws

    4.Checks and balances

    Each branch limits the powers of the other two branches.
    executive appoints federal judges
    legislative impeaches power of the executive and judicial branches
    judicial reviews the executive and legislative branches

    5. judicial review
    the courts power to determine the constitution government action.

    6.federalism

    the division of government power between national and state governments.
